Aromatherapy for Stress
0In the 21st century, stress is no longer a buzz word afforded to top executives but a real experience of most people, children included. Life is jam packed with too many ‘have to do’s’! We suffer from information overload. During the 1970’s and 80’s doctors were prescribing sleeping tablets, tranquilisers and anti-anxiety pills, there has been a growing dissatisfaction with these treatments since the early 1990’s. A new trend towards natural ways to help with stress conditions has developed in our society since the turn of the century, and people are finally taking note of ancient traditional methods of health and healing.
Aromas have been used since early biblical days to enhance moods and create atmospheres, in all religions and in all cultures. The last 80 years have seen the rapid rise of aromatherapy which is now recognised as a therapeutic discipline used by many.
What a wonderful way to treat stress by inhaling soothing aromas or receiving a therapeutic massage. Lying in a warm aromatic bath sure beats stress rather than dulling the senses and numbing out with medication.
Lighting a candle burner, preparing for an aromatic bath, inhaling aromas, receiving a therapeutic massage are ways to beat stress by not only relieving the stress symptoms of headaches, muscular aches and other pains, but by pampering oneself one is being constructive in managing their stress. One simply reduces stress by taking time out to pamper oneself. It is like unwinding an elastic band and then renewing the rubber before it is stretched again!
Lavender, Camomile, Neroli, Marjoram, Ylang Ylang, Geranium and other essential oils are all calming and de-stressing. Essential oils are superb for combating stress the natural way. Used for inhalation in an aromatic burner, or in a bath, for massage or with compresses, aromatherapy provides a safe, effective method for soothing the body, mind and soul.
