Aromatherapy to maintain health
Aromatherapy oils are perfect aids for maintaining and improving a healthy body, mind and soul, and using essential oils for this purpose is the perfect accompaniment to a fit and healthy lifestyle.
Attention also needs to be placed on a healthy diet and exercise, as well as sound sleep as these are the pillars of good fitness. Drinking plenty of fresh water is always advised for optimal metabolism.
Maintenance of a Healthy Body
During exercise there is a build up of lactic acid in the muscles and strain is often placed onto joints, tendons and ligaments. Aromatherapy oils can be used to detoxify this acid buildup in the joints and muscles and to improve circulation. This promotes fresh oxygen supply and toxin removal.
Rosemary, ginger, eucalyptus and cajuput are just some oils that can be used for stimulating circulation which also have anti- inflammatory properties. These oils warm muscles and joints and can be applied before a cycle or spinning class to prepare muscles and joints especially in the early morning. Peppermint and menthol (extract from peppermint) have a cooling effect on muscles and joints so applied after exertion will help strained muscles and joints.
Essential oils prepared in the form of creams, gels or sprays can be massaged onto limbs before, during or after exercise to minimize stiffness, and maximize performance. Oils are quickly metabolized in a lean healthy body and have a quick action.
We have developed a trio of products that can roll, rub and spray away pain:
Roll on Relief – use to massage painful muscles
Spray on Relief – use on painful areas that are too sore to be touched
Rub on Relief – on painful areas such as your knees, joints, and sore hands and feet.
Our Roll on relief sports edition, containing menthol and arnica is great to use for injuries, aching or stiff muscles. Best of all it fits snugly into your pocket or bike pouch. This unique roll-on has a dual purpose – to apply therapeutic essential oils and to massage the affected area. Roll on to muscular area, applying pressure with the roller ball while the gel is dispensed for about twenty seconds.
Maintenance of a Healthy Immune System
For an immune boost or to prevent chest or nasal infections, tea tree and eucalyptus are the best essential oils to use.
Eucalyptus is mucolytic and helps to rid the airways of dryness, and to trap infectious particles that are then coughed out. Tea tree has well known anti-infectious properties against bacteria, microbes and fungi.
Allergies are also well treated with aromatherapy. Less is better than more in these cases so minute amounts are sufficient for immune improvement. It is best to use diluted essential oils in a base oil or gel on and around the respiratory system to help ward off infections. In the Middle Ages, small bags of herbs worn hanging on the chest (called tussie mussies) were commonly used as immune protectors and boosters.
We recommend the Sinus Combo containing the Sinusniff and Sinus Soother designed to help ease nasal congestion and alleviate irritation. The Sneezes and Wheezes bath and massage oil is also great for opening up the airways and relieves cold and flu congestion.
Maintenance of Feet
Taking care of your feet during training is so important. Regular foot massages with enriched creams or oils will stimulate circulation, soften rough skin and provide relief for these often abused appendages. Our Pumice foot scrub helps slough off dead skin, best followed by our Feet Treaty cream with peppermint, which revitalizes and moisturizes aching feet. Massaging your feet is akin to massaging your whole body, based on reflexology principles, so regular foot soaks and massage is very healing.
For dealing with stress and to promote healthy sleep cycles, camomile, lavender, neroli and geranium are some of the best essential oils to use. Citrus oils are known as the “happy oils” and are well known for improving one’s mood and outlook.
Bathing or massaging with these oils, alone or as combinations can help with soothing stress and improving sleep. These oils may also be inhaled by using them in a traditional burner, tissue or other infused inhaler. Smelling these oils is how the mind and soul are soothed.
Use Silent Nights bath & Massage oil in a bath before bed to calm the mind and soothe the bosy. To carry with you in your bag or pocket we recommend our Relaxer Roll-on for on-the-go stress relief and to calm or relax. Use the roller ball application to massage the oil onto pulse points (inside wrists) and forearms, as required for stress relief. Inhale too for best benefit. The Head A Combo is used for migraines and headaches containing the Head A care roll on and HeadASniff which helps relieve tension.
Peppermint, lemon and rosemary are mentally stimulating oils, which are useful before a cycle or gym routine where focus and concentration are required. Dab a drop of oil onto gloves or wristband to inhale during your training cycle.
Our Focusniff can be used for stimulating concentration and alertness whilst the aroma from our Wake up & Focus Burner essence enhances your energy.
