With less than two weeks to go until the Cape Town Cycle Tour 2015, we thought it apt to put together a Survival Kit for the days leading up to the race and for race day itself.
Because let’s face it, to cycle 109km in searing heat with countless hills to contend with, your body may just need some help with prepping for the race and recovering afterwards.
Our PR manager, Tricia, is tackling her second cycle tour this year and swears by this survival kit to see her through her fastidious training regime and post-race aches and pains. She gives us the low down and applications of each product:
Spray On Relief
Whilst this product has been developed for really painful areas that are too sore to massage, I tend to use this spray on all my joints and muscles prior to a ride. Specifically my knees and thighs as I find these two areas take the most strain. It feels like the essential oils warm up my muscles for the slog ahead and I’m ready to rumble.
During a ride:
Sports Roll On Relief
This is one of my favourite products because it is small enough to carry in my shirt pocket on training rides and on the actual race day. Sometimes I forget to take it with me and I always regret it – often I have little niggles and aches and pains in my knees or muscles and a simple self-massage using the roller ball gets me back on the bike in no time. I always make sure I massage my muscles after my ride too, to ease any cramps.
Move Easy Bath & Massage Oil
I alternate between this bath oil and the mustard milk soak, both of which work really well. I love the smell of this product and the fact that I can either use it in the bath or get my long-suffering husband to give me a massage!
Mustard Milk Bath Soak
This is one of my best discoveries for aching muscles. I can literally feel the therapeutic qualities of the salt, and I love the smell of the mustard.
Feet Treaty Cream
After a few hours in the saddle, my feet are often sore and need some TLC. After a bath, I massage my feet with the Feet Treaty cream and then put my feet up without socks on to let the peppermint do its thing – my feet feel tingly (in a good way), instantly soothed and moisturized
Roll On Relief
Whilst I prefer using the Sports Roll On during a ride (it has added menthol and arnica), I love applying the original Roll On Relief after my ride to my calves and thighs especially. The roller ball allows me to massage myself, especially if some areas are too painful for someone else to massage. I also like to massage my feet with this and it is pure heaven!
Rub In Relief
This is a great cream for my knees and joints for after a ride where it’s difficult to use the roller ball on the Roll On relief. Brilliant too for a calf and heel massage at the end of the day…
All of the above products come in a nifty combo, the Sports Product Combo, available online or at our kiosks at the V&A Waterfront or Gateway Shopping Centre. Or visit us at the Cape Town Cycle Tour Lifecycle Expo taking place from 5-7 March 2015 at the Good Hope Centre.
To all the cyclists taking part this year, here’s to a fantastic 2015 Cape Town Cycle Tour! Good luck to you all.
Yours in aromatic wellbeing
