Babies over the age of six months and small children can benefit greatly from essential oils. Aside from the health benefits for a baby’s metabolism and digestion, the act of massage can be a lovely bonding time for both mum and baby. Essential oils that are safe to use for baby are similar to those that are safe during pregnancy – lavender for calming, mandarin for relaxation, and neroli and geranium, which are both calming and balancing. Oils applied via massage on baby’s chest, back and feet help with congestion, whilst a few drops of pure oil on a tissue in the room, placed not too close to baby, can be sufficient to help with stuffy noses.
